I think that another thing that's being looked over in the scientific literacy Asks you're being sent is that scientific literacy doesn't necessarily mean that you're a science geek. You can be scientifically literate with just the classes you took in high school. It doesn't take a supreme amount of effort to be literate in much of anything, especially the basic collegiate studies, such as English, Math, & Science. It's everywhere you look.

I agree, however it can be said that the basic understanding of the sciences isn’t enough to really grasp the truths behind the evidence and the facts. It’s one thing to be told an answer and another thing to go and search for the reasoning behind it.
